At the start of every year people make many resolutions, for many the most common one is running a marathon. It does not matter if they will finish the race just being in one and making the effort counts. It is among the many reasons why people may join one. Another main reason is to get the right to brag to friends and family. For whatever reason that one may have to choose to join it is a good idea to get prepared beforehand this is why they should get tips on how to train for and run a marathon.

You do not want to start the race only to drop out because you do not have the right gear. Getting a good fitting shoe that will not by any chance give you blisters is a great place to start. The shoe needs to be light while at the same time giving the much needed support that one needs. Wearing them to a shorter race just to feel how comfortable they are is a good idea.

Apart from running shoes you need to dress the part. It is not recommended for one to run wearing a cotton shirt even if they are provided because you will suffocate in it. A shirt made of nylon is best since it is light and suffocation cannot happen when wearing it. Also wear the clothes before hand to feel if they are comfortable for you.

You have to test how fit you are. For this reason about a month to the big race you should run a shorter race that will give you a mental lift. If you cannot find a race to participate in, you can gather a few friends to run with you. Have a higher speed that one you intend on using on the big day.

One might be tempted to think just training is enough but what they forget is that you have to train for the landscape that you will have. First do your research on the kind of landscape there is and train for it. If it is hilly train by running up and down hills do the same if it is a flat area.

One cannot stress enough how important it is to keep hydrated during the race. For those who take it seriously they will take the same sport drink that will be available and also with the same frequency that they will have on the big day. This they can know by asking prior the day.

As the marathon draws close it is wise to get a confidence boast. You can do this by running a shorter course in the running shoes as well as in the clothes that you will use on that day, do this four to three days before the race.

Advise is given that you train at the same time everyday this is so that the body can have the rhythm especially when it comes to bath room breaks. This kind of training can be very difficult for those that are not disciplined enough.
