What You Need To Know About The Lung Function Supplements

Lungs play a very vital role in the body system, and cannot be replaced. They are responsible for gas exchange, allowing in air rich in oxygen and exhaling the air rich in carbon dioxide. However, there are several pollutants that can seriously affect the functions of this organ. The major pollutants to avoid include the cigarette smoke, smog, and many other chemicals that occur in the atmosphere. There are other conditions like influenza and asthma that also weakens the heart. Fortunately, there are several lung function supplements that are capable of keeping it functioning properly.

Respiratory diseases and malfunctions are among the leading causes of death worldwide. In fact, it is estimated that one in every 7 deaths result from these causes. The most common examples include asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, bronchitis, tuberculosis, pulmonary fibrosis, and the dreaded lung cancer. These together with other common but minor infections like common cold, sore throat, cough and influenza can be minimized by using supplements.

The widely used supplement is mullein. It has properties that can effectively fight the bacteria and influenza. It is approved by the FDA and also work in the treatment of asthma and bronchitis among several other respiratory infections. It is taken as tea, with one tablespoon mixed in one cup of boiling water and left to steam for ten minutes being enough. For treatment of the common respiratory diseases, 2 to 3 cups is recommended for the day.

Horebound is another widely used supplement for the same purpose. Lozenges and candies are commonly made from horebound, and are used to manage cough. It has expectorant properties that enable it to treat cough, cold, sore throat, and asthma in addition to several other respiratory diseases. The other commonly used natural supplements for lungs include the licorice, fenugreek, and the slippery elm among others.

The vitamins and minerals also play a very vital role in keeping the lungs operating optimally. This partly explains why a daily dosage of multivitamin nutrients rich in minerals is recommended. Vitamin E in particular is very important, as it helps clear the cell membrane of its residence, which help protect the lung cells from the harms that are caused by pollen grains, smoke, smog, and all other chemicals inhaled.

A published research even concludes that for non-smokers, the risks of getting cancer is only half of those taking Vitamin E supplements as compared to those not taking it. The recommended dosage per day is 600 IU.

The other important vitamin is vitamin C. Thanks to its potent properties, it is an antioxidant. However, it is only beneficial if the use restricts to the right dosage. 200 mg per day gives the best results, better than dosage above or below the recommended 200 mg.

There are several supplements available in the market, the majority now sold on the online shops. As such, the search should start from these sites. More important, though, each of these supplements is unique in their own ways. As such, it is important to search for information in regards for each particular product. Secondly, the doctor must be involved before resorting to any given product so that they do not cause complication or any unpleasant side effects.
